All news, print and television treat our own Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney as heroes for bravely choosing country over party. Why are Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema treated as villains for doing the same thing?

After reading the Speak Out opinions in the past year on President Trump and President Biden, I have come to the conclusion that nothing has changed. Wait until the next election to voice your opinions, that way you won’t develop ulcers.

Why does a subscriber to the Southtown do what they do? Who knows? There are readers who subscribe only for the obituaries, others for the police blotter or the sports page. I am a reader interested in the neighboring communities and what activities are going on in the various neighborhoods. National news is broadcast 24/7 on TV, but not local news. Hence the informative Southtown. Newspaper editors across the Southland, we salute you for a job well done.

I agree with Tom from Chicago Ridge about Bobby Rush finally getting out of Congress. But the people that are running for his position are nothing more than political hacks. The same thing with the state of Illinois. We have nobody running against Pritzker of any value that has any chance of defeating the guy. Let’s face it, the people of Illinois just don’t care.

Reading Speak Out, I think YCM of Orland Park had it right, they are possibly looking for the show “Laugh-In.” But really, I think you mean the show “Let’s Make a Deal.”

I went to a fast-food restaurant and I had to show an ID along with my vaccination card. I think that’s the way voting should be. You should show your ID when you vote, also.

The Jan. 20 story about Shepard High School’s plan to help homeless people tells of the well-intended efforts of the student food drive. Upon looking at the photo, I see many items that are to be donated of questionable value. For instance, canned goods. Will a can opener be included? The Hamburger Helper mix is rather useless without the hamburger and a stove to cook it on. Students, please think ahead as to what items homeless people can actually use.
