Porter Starke Services, Marram Health to close outpatient offices on Wednesday

Porter-Starke Services will close its outpatient office locations in Valparaiso, Portage, and Knox on Wednesday due to the forecast of severe weather. In addition, Marram Health Center will close its outpatient office locations in Gary and Hebron on Wednesday.

Scheduled appointments during the time in which Porter-Starke offices are physically closed may be delivered via telemedicine or rescheduled. The Admissions & Emergency Services department, the Inpatient Care Center and both Recovery Center locations (Valparaiso and La Porte) will remain open. Emergency services are also still accessible by calling 219-531-3500.

Portage Chamber presents fifth annual ‘Fish On’

The Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce will host the fifth Annual “Fish-On Portage” fishing and outdoor show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 26 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 27 at Woodland Park, 2100 Willowcreek Road, Portage. Outdoor events to be showcased include: hunting, fishing, snow shoeing, archery, kayaking, hiking and bird watching. Seminars will run throughout both days of the event. There will be door prizes and a children’s area. Admission is $6 for adults; $5 for seniors; $4 for children age 7 to 18; and free for children younger than 6. Parking is free. The Chamber is currently accepting vendors representing these activities or others involving the outdoors. Exhibit to feature four regional artists

The Miller Beach Arts and Creative District is celebrating Black History Month with an exhibit featuring four regional artists from Friday through March 18 at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, 540 S. Lake St., Gary. An opening reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Artists featured in the exhibit are Tyrell Anderson of the Decay Devils, Dr. Cranston Sedrick Knight, Karina Mitchell and Sanovia Reynold-Parks. Each strive to emphasize the significance of community and black culture utilizing multiple mediums, photography, painting, writing and technology. Gallery hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door. Back on Track to help immunize Gary children

MDwise, the Gary Health Department and the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) will host “Back on Track” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 19 at Edgewater Health, 1100 W. Sixth Ave., Gary. The IDOH estimates that 53 percent of K-12 students in Gary schools have not received all required shots. All routine childhood vaccinations including measles, mumps, rubella, polio and HPV will be available during the event, as well as the COVID vaccine for children 5 and older. Wellness checks and COVID tests will be available onsite as well. The event is open to everyone and will include free food, free school supplies and door prizes of $50 gift cards. Gary Chamber to host monthly luncheon

The Gary Chamber of Commerce will hold its General Membership Luncheon at Noon on Feb. 14 at Hard Rock Casino Council Oak Steak House, 5400 W. 29th Ave., Gary. The featured guest speaker will be Clarence Halsey, executive director of the Economic Development Corp. Michigan City. The meeting and luncheon is open to the public.
