RETAIL THEFT
Landon A. Bell, 22, of Lisle, was charged with retail theft Jan. 19. Police were dispatched to a retail business in the 700 block of Waukegan Road because of a report there was a retail theft in progress. A witness saw Bell take a bottle of an alcoholic beverage, go into the restroom and allegedly drink it. Police spotted him in the parking lot outside the store and observed something in his pocket which turned out to be another bottle of an alcoholic beverage allegedly taken from the store. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court Feb. 15 in Waukegan.
DUI
Israel Toledo-Hernandez, 21, of Deerfield, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of cannabis in the passenger area of a motor vehicle Jan. 15. Police responded to a well-being check in the 600 block of Deerfield Road on the report of a man sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle. After police woke him, they smelled the odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He failed a field sobriety test. His behavior became such he was transported to Highland Park Hospital for evaluation. He was released from police custody on bond and is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court Feb. 23 in Waukegan.
Jacek Josef Wolowski, 60, of Long Grove, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and criminal damage to property Jan. 6. As police responded to a crash with injuries in the vicinity of Deerfield Road and Castlewood Lane, they received notification a vehicle with Wolowski inside was leaving the scene. Police stopped him in the 800 block of Chestnut Street. After exiting the vehicle, he was walking in an unsteady manner. He failed a field sobriety test. A blood or urine sample was provided. He was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court Feb. 23 in Waukegan.
INVALID LICENSE
Marco A. Barete, 30, of Skokie, was charged with driving with an invalid license, obstructing identification and apprehended on one warrant from Lake County and another from McHenry County Jan. 16. Police were following his car and others after a report of a large gathering in the 300 block of South Waukegan Road, finally stopping him in a parking lot near the Highland Park police station. A check showed his license was invalid. He was released on bond for the traffic offenses, and is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court Feb. 17 in Waukegan on those charges. He was transported to the Lake County jail for the outstanding warrants where he is scheduled to appear in Lake County Court Feb. 1 in Waukegan
