NIPSCO seeks grant applications for safety education, training

NIPSCO is accepting applications for grants to support local nonprofit organizations that provide public safety education and training across northern Indiana. Grants are available in amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000. Applications are being accepted now through Aug. 5 with grant awards announced during the week of Aug. 22. Grant opportunities will include, but are not limited to, community and youth public safety education programming and training for first responders, police and fire department fire and carbon monoxide safety programs, education and training in the prevention of damage to underground natural gas lines, and child-related safety education. Organizations with a mission to support public safety education and training are invited to submit a grant request. Merrillville schools Head Start preschool enrollment event

Families living in Ross Township are invited to attend open enrollment for the Merrillville Community School Corporation’s Head Start Preschool from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday at the Dean and Barbara White Community Center, 6600 Broadway, Merrillville. Ross Township includes Merrillville and parts of Crown Point and Hobart. Parents should bring the following documents: valid state issued ID, child’s official birth certificate, insurance card, child’s immunization records, income records for the last 12 months, child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)/Individualized Education Program (IEP) and proof of Merrillville schools’ residency, such as a utility bill or a lease/mortgage. IU Northwest to host youth summer sports camps

IU Northwest will host three summer sports camps this summer. All camps will be held Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Savannah Gymnasium on campus, 3400 Broadway, Gary. Camps are as follows: the “RedHawks Volleyball Camp,” for boys and girls ages 7 to 14, from July 11 to 13; the “Kids Basketball Camp,” for boys and girls ages 7 to 12, from July 18 to 20; and the “Skills Basketball Camp,” for boys and girls ages 12 to 17, from July 25 to 27. The fee for each camp is $50 per child. A $10 discount is offered for each child from the same family attending the same camp. All campers will receive a RedHawks T-shirt. There will be a daily cleaning of balls and equipment, and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the facility. All campers are encouraged to bring their own water bottles. Masks will not be required. A certified athletic trainer will be on site for the duration of the camp. Bishop Noll to host annual golf outing

Bishop Noll Institute will host their annual golf outing to benefit student scholars on July 18 at the Innsbrook Country Club, 6701 W. Taft St., Merrillville. The event will begin with lunch and registration at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Fees are $200 per golfer or $800 per foursome. Tickets include lunch, golf and cart, drinks on the course, dinner and prizes. Guests may attend dinner only for $60. A reduced fee of $100 is available for young alums, those who graduated from BNI in 2012 or later. Registration is open until July 13. Sponsorship opportunities are available: $100 to sponsor a young alum; $175 to be a hole sponsor; $800 to sponsor beverages on the course; $800 to sponsor lunch; and $1,500 to sponsor dinner, cocktail hour or player gifts.
