Hike with a ranger Nov. 13
Rangers will lead hikes of the Dune Succession Trail at West Beach, one of the Indiana Dunes National Park’s most popular trails, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov 13. The trail includes a climb of 270 stairs for a view of Lake Michigan and Chicago. Those interested in attending can meet at the West Beach parking lot in Portage. The national park’s new entrance fee is $25 per car for a one to seven day pass.
Valparaiso to have Veteran’s Day event
The City of Valparaiso, Valparaiso Park Department and the Valparaiso Park Foundation will have a Veterans Day ceremony beginning at 8 a.m. Friday at the Service Memorial at Foundation Meadows Park. There will be a reflection by Aaron Treble, U.S. Air Force Veteran as well as a recitation of all the names inscribed on the Duty & Sacrifice monument, which is devoted to military service people from the Valparaiso area who gave their lives in the service.
Chesterton Middle School to have 55th annual Veterans Day program
Chesterton Middle School will have its 55th annual Veterans Day community recognition program at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Chesterton Middle School Goldsborough Gym. The public is invited to attend and doors will open at 1 p.m. The program will include music from the CMS music department and speeches will be presented by a guest speaker and a student essay winner. Cash donations for Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to the spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled military and first responders, will be accepted at the door.
Opportunity Enterprises Angel Tree accepting participants
The Opportunity Enterprises Angel Tree is currently looking for participants to provide gifts for individuals with disabilities that live independently with help from their Supported Living Program or individuals that may not otherwise receive a gift this holiday season. Individuals may support the Angel Tree program by being paired with a client or clients to purchase gifts from a wish list or by providing monetary donations or gift cards that can be used to purchase gifts.
