Where are all these lazy, good-for-nothing union slackers? I’ve watched plumbers, electricians, truck drivers, and many other union members working their tails off, and, what’s more, they know what they’re doing. Then there are all the “right to work” people who are more than willing to enjoy all the benefits unions have fought for, and then brag about not paying union dues. It’s so American. Want everything, want to pay for nothing.
Paying union dues doesn’t necessarily make one not do the job he or she is paid for, conversely not paying union dues doesn’t make one a human dynamo, who will work 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It all depends on a personal work ethic, but as stereotypes and generalizations seem to be the flavors of the month for conservative, Trump-loving, hypocritical Republicans, we can look forward to more urban legend type comments from this segment of the readership.
Frank Mrvan and Andre Carson, Indiana’s two Democratic congressmen, both sought Community Project grants in the recently passed spending bill, with Mrvan bringing home $21.5 million for Northwest Indiana. Not a single one of the seven Republican congressmen in the state sought a red cent for their districts, and in fact voted against the appropriations. And here’s the thing. These same Republicans will rant and rave about out-of-control Democratic spending, but at the same time they will vote for billions in tax giveaways for corporations and the wealthy and bitterly attack the IRS (and attempt to defund it) for trying to collect billions in taxes that are being evaded. Then, too, they will turn around and bow in fealty to a President who, it now appears, rarely paid any taxes, was never audited as the law requires, turned his business losses into tax shelters, and said that not paying taxes was “smart.”
Did you really quit paying union dues, or did they kick you out of the union? If you got paid and didn’t work, the union I was a member of would have got your last check and never hired you again. Sitting on the bench being out of work certainly is a motivation to either do your job or be unemployed. You are the type of leech that gets weeded out in my union.
Indiana and Kentucky attorney generals have taken steps to ban TikTok. I guess all the other apps that spy on us and take personal info are acceptable to them as long as not Chinese owned? If our attorney general were interested in helping our citizens, all key logging apps would be called out for potential ban. This is more about political grandstanding than helping us.
Here is irrefutable proof that we can do a better job of processing migrants who have applied for asylum at our southern border. Within five months, the U.S. ‘surged’ resources and processed 100,000 Ukrainian refugees! It was a great humanitarian effort. However, Republican administrations have done everything possible to foul up and delay the processing of those who are seeking asylum at our southern border. The latest is the Supreme Court’s decision to delay a ruling on removing Title 42, which was approved during the Trump administration. The purpose was to prevent or delay the processing of asylum seekers because of the pandemic. Biden was seeking an end to the restrictions. A final ruling is yet to come. In short, we know we can speed up the processing of asylum seekers when we set priorities. We have the will. We know the way.
The brand of Donald Trump plummets day by day. Those who still run interference for his shameful behavior are left with their one defensive tactic: “what-aboutisms.” What about Hunter Biden? The unaddressed vandalism of the Black Lives Matter movement? The culture crisis? The border crisis? All valid issues for another conversation, but irrelevant to the despicable siege on our U.S. Capitol. What about-isms don’t hold up in a court of law. The jury must focus only on the facts of the criminal case at hand. The MAGA world can’t seem to do that.
