A few years ago, my child came out as trans. My spouse and I worried about side effects and potential irreversible consequences that hormone therapy might have on our deeply unhappy kid. We talked to the experts at Howard Brown in Chicago and followed their advice. After my child started gender-affirming care, their whole demeanor changed for the better. They started smiling and laughing and opening up in a way I hadn’t seen since they were a baby. Getting started on hormones and living as their true self saved my child’s life without a doubt. Without this care, my child almost certainly would have killed themselves by now. Indiana Republicans want to ban this kind of medical care. They would rather parents like me have to bury their son or daughter than give them puberty blockers or hormones. Why? What I can tell you is this, though: I’m looking at real estate far from this backwards, hateful state.
A perspective: If each county in Indiana set aside 540 acres for solar collection, it would not equal the acreage of golf courses. and which is more beneficial to the general public?
It’s interesting that this newspaper reports what the statehouse supermajority GOP is up to, whereas the other paper is reporting that news selectively. The NWI Times has not published anything recently on the extreme anti-transgender legislation currently being passed. Are they embarrassed that Indiana is copying all legislation coming out of Florida?
It’s time to start referring to the Indiana House of Representatives as what it actually is, the Indiana House of Republicans. In the same vein, the GOP is no longer the “Grand Old Party.” These days it seems to have one single, overriding purpose, PDT — “Protect Donald Trump.”
As an adult, one that has been through more than a fair share of life’s experiences — I am still shocked at the blatant ignorance on display by so many people. It used to be that people were embarrassed by what they didn’t know. Now, they broadcast their ridiculous theories that have no basis of truth, rumors that have been debunked, over and over, thrown out by dozens of courts as having no evidence, and they still repeat it. You can’t make anything come true by wishing it.
Uninformed Democrats are saying that the large amounts of blue state bailout money doled out by Joe Biden early in his term went to red states. If so, the red states are still waiting for it! These Democrats are like Putin and Pelosi — driven by the spirits!
There are no longer two political parties in this country. There are the Democrats and the Trump cult and every other supposedly sane Republican that supports them.
We have experienced another tragic shooting in our schools. Two administrators were shot by one of their students in Denver’s East High School. The shooting was another sad event in our current school culture. There is a related situation that school administrators are aware of that should be dealt with to hopefully prevent another tragedy. The student responsible for the shooting had been expelled from another school. Why was he allowed to attend East High? Yes, they would pat him down each day, but what about his behavior while walking or riding to and from school? Who was going to monitor or ‘control’ his behavior? Should the student have been allowed to mix with the regular or traditional school environment? Strong alternative schools with additional support services and controls such as counselors, social workers therapists and security services are needed for these youngsters.
