A Gary man is accused of allegedly strangling a woman when she tried to break off their relationship.
Alpha Pratchet, 26, is charged with strangulation, a Level 6 felony, and misdemeanor domestic battery.
On Nov. 17, 2022, Hobart Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 300 block of South Linda Street.
According to the probable cause affidavit, a woman outside the residence told police that Pratchet had become very angry when she told him she was ending their relationship. She said that he started to break the controller and headset of his Xbox gaming system before punching a hole in the bedroom door and scattering a bag of dog food all over the living room, records state.
The woman told Pratchet to leave, but he threw a full clothing basket all over the dining room. When she called his mother to tell her about his behavior, Pratchet grabbed her with both hands around the neck and applied pressure that made it difficult to breathe, court records state.
After Pratchet let her go, she advised him that she intended to call police and he fled the scene in his black Pontiac sedan before police arrive, according to the affidavit.
