Criminal charges allege a man at a Gary assisted living building shot a fellow resident after the man antagonized him.

Bobby Ford, 53, was charged Tuesday with aggravated battery.

He is in custody, held on a $5,000 bond.

Gary Police were called June 25 to the 4900 block of Melton Road.

The victim claimed Ford pulled a gun and fired three times as they were sitting in the lunchroom. The man said it was his birthday and claimed they argued over how much food they got.

He was hit in the left bicep, armpit and had a bullet lodged in his chest by his lungs. The man ran back to his room until the ambulance came. and was later taken to the hospital.

“He shot me,” the victim said.

Other witnesses said the victim was talking about beating Ford in a prior fight. Others warned him to leave Ford alone before the shooting happened.

Administrator January Szweda told police all cameras there “do not record”.
