Indian Boundary Rd to close west of State Road 49

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Rieth Riley Construction will close Indian Boundary Road just west of Indiana 49 for approximately four days starting Tuesday.

The road will be closed to replace a pipe structure between State Road 49 and Plaza Drive. This work is occurring in conjunction with intersection improvements at State Road 49 and Indian Boundary Rd. Motorists should seek alternate routes during the closure.

Ridge Road closed at Manor Avenue for a week as part of NICTD West Lake project

Ridge Road will be closed at Manor Avenue in Munster while track is laid across the road starting Tuesday. The work is part of the NICTD West Lake Corridor extension and expected to last until Sept. 13, weather permitting.

Since June, traffic has been limited to one lane in each direction for several blocks east and west of Manor, which has been closed at the intersection.

Broadmoor Avenue and Fisher Street will remain open during the work.

Valparaiso hosting neighborhood grants information session

The City of Valparaiso will host a meeting to learn more about Neighborhood Improvement grants at 5:30 pm on Sept. 6, at Valparaiso City Hall, 166 Lincolnway.

The Neighborhood Improvement Grant program has funded 98 projects, resulting in more than $1.3 million in neighborhood improvements, since the program was introduced in 2018. Previous projects awarded grant funding have included community spaces, like bus stop benches and pavilions for gathering; neighborhood signage/branding that instills unity and a sense of pride; public art displays that add unique character by representing the neighborhood; and physical improvements, like planting trees or enhancing park equipment

Save the Dunes to hold Sept. 10 event honoring Monarch butterflies

Save the Dunes will celebrate the journey and migration of the Monarch butterfly through our region with music and food from 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 10 at Michigan City’s Brewery Lodge & Supper Club.

Monarch Music Fest tickets start at $50 online and $60 at the door, kids are only $15. Tickets are available until the event reaches capacity (limited to 300 people). Each ticket includes entrance, food, and 1 craft draft ticket. Beer, wine, and cocktails for an additional cost will be available on-site. Tickets can be purchased at www.savedunes.org under the events tab. Sponsorship opportunities are available as well.

Musical performers will include the MilkBillies, Chicago Drum Battery and Massasauga.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Save the Dunes’ work to protect and advocate for the Indiana dunes, Lake Michigan, and the surrounding natural areas for the health and vitality of the environment and the people who live, work and recreate in Northwest Indiana.
