Dozes of seniors were able to receive import health screenings, tests and immunizations at the senior health fair held last Friday in Elmwood Park.

The annual “Senior Health Fair” ran for about three hours at the Elmwood Park Parks and Recreation Center.

Seniors were offered a variety of free health services, including EKG and diabetes testing, body mass index analysis, glucose and blood sugar tests, and blood pressure readings, according to Elmwood Park Director of Parks and Recreation Al Schmidt.

“The purpose of the Senior Health Fair is for attendees to receive as many free services and information from [participating] exhibitors as possible,” read a social media post advertising this year’s event.

Around 150 seniors attended the fair, said Schmidt.

Schmidt said pharmacy retailer Walgreens provided free flu shots, and the pharmacy of membership warehouse club retailer Costco provided appointments for free hearing aid analysis, tests, and education, as well as free vitamin B shots.

The Senior Health Fair has been held by the village for the past 12 years, said Schmidt, who stated the importance of “free health care services for seniors in the community to take advantage of managing their health better.”
