Three teens were shot and one man was beaten in Gary over the weekend.

Gary Police spokesman Cmdr. Sam Roberts said in an email that at around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 7, two teens, a 16- and 17-year-old, were in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 500 block of S. Vermillion Place in the city’s Miller section when people started shooting at them. Neither was able to give further information, he said.

Twenty-four minutes later, at 3:54 p.m., officers were sent to Methodist Hospital’s Northlake campus in Gary in response to the shooting of an 18-year-old Indianapolis man, Roberts said. Witnesses said he arrived by car and passed out as he tried to enter the emergency room and was later transferred to Chicago after family members arrived and identified him, Roberts said.

Roberts then said police were sent to Methodist Northlake to talk to a 33-year-old man who’d been beaten at a lounge in the 1800 block of Massachusetts St. The man was unable to provide any other information other than he and his friends went to the lounge around 9:30 p.m. and then “became involved in a physical altercation with another group of people,” Roberts said.

Anyone with information about any of these incidents is asked to call (219) 881-1210.
