An executive for the Texas-based owners of the Burger King at the center of the ex-Ald. Ed Burke corruption trial told the jury today he went against his own boss’s instructions to hire Burke’s law firm for property tax work on a “gut feeling” about their competence.
The Burger King scheme was back in the spotlight today as the corruption trial entered a fourth week of testimony. Prosecutors had interrupted their presentation of the Burger King episode after an attorney for one of Burke’s co-defendants, Peter Andrews Jr., fell ill with COVID-19 over the Thanksgiving break.

Students from Skokie Jewish school headed to Israel to volunteer in farming sector
