An 11-year-old boy was recovering Thursday night after he and a man were hit by gunfire in the Roseland neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago police said.

Police said a 24-year-old man was on the sidewalk in the 200 block of West 95th Street around 6:30 p.m. when a person approached and opened fire.

The man was struck in the arm and abdomen, police said. Around the same time one block east of the shooting, the boy, who was inside a home, was shot in the leg from the outside gunfire, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. The boy was treated at Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition. The boy was not the intended target, police said.

No one was in custody. Detectives were investigating the shooting.
