A 21-year-old man was fatally wounded overnight in a shooting in the North Kenwood neighborhood on the South Side, Chicago police said.

Shortly before 12:45 a.m., officers responding to shots fired in the area of the 4000 block of South Lake Park Avenue discovered damage to vehicles before getting a call from University of Chicago Medical Center reporting a man who was dropped off with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

The victim had suffered gunshot wounds to the upper chest and right shoulder and was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

Witnesses at the scene refused to cooperate with officers, and no one was in custody for the fatal shooting. Detectives were investigating.
