One man was killed and another badly wounded in what police described as a targeted shooting Thursday in Zion, according to police.

The man who died was a 19-year-old Waukegan resident. The second victim is an 18-year-old Zion man.  Their identities were not immediately available.

Zion police said they received numerous calls Thursday at around 7:53 a.m. reporting gunshots in the 2500 block of Gilead Avenue.

Officers who responded found both men with apparent gunshot wounds. They were brought to area hospitals. The Waukegan man was pronounced dead at one hospital, and the second victim had emergency surgery.

Police said they believe the men were targeted, and that there is no risk to the general public.

The shooting remains under investigation by Zion police and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
