A 66-year-old man argued with car thieves early Tuesday morning before an exchange of gunfire erupted on the Lower West Side, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 6 a.m., the victim, a conceal carry license holder, was outside in the 1100 block of West Cullerton Street when he saw two people near a parked vehicle and an argument ensued, police said.
A weapon was displayed during the argument with the 66-year-old man who pulled out his weapon prompting an exchange of gunfire, police said.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to a leg, and was taken to Stroger Hospital and listed in good condition. The would-be thieves got inside a waiting Lexus sedan and fled the scene, police said.
No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
