A Dolton man was sentenced to 20 years, eight months in federal prison for firing multiple rounds of gunfire in a Calumet City parking lot in 2021.
U.S. District Judge John Tharp sentenced Anthony Hayes, 27, on Friday. Jamari Williams, 26, and Reginald Daniels, 33, both of Chicago, were also involved in the gunfire exchange. Williams was sentenced in August to 10 years in prison, and Daniels was sentenced in June to eight and a half years.
Hayes and Williams each fired multiple rounds at Daniels in an auto repair shop in Calumet City, injuring Daniels and another individual, according to court documents.
When Daniels fired multiple rounds at the two men as they ran away, one of his shots struck a person driving near the store, leaving the driver with life-altering injuries, according to court documents.
“By letting loose a hail of bullets towards an open business abutting a busy four-lane thoroughfare, defendant threatened countless other repair shop customers, employees, and passersby,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Mower said. “Justice accordingly demands commensurate punishment.”
Attorneys for the defendants did not respond immediately for comment.
Three days after the shootings, law enforcement discovered eight firearms in Hayes’ residence, including the guns used by Hayes and Williams in the shooting.
Hayes, Williams and Daniels were indicted in 2022 and have been in federal custody since.
All three men pleaded guilty earlier this year, and their sentences were announced by U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros and Christopher Amon, special agent-in-charge of the Chicago Field Division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
