Curbside leaf collection program begins the week of Oct. 20
Naperville’s bulk curbside leaf collection program, which allows residents to dispose of fallen leaves by raking them into the street, begins Monday, Oct. 20, and ends Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Every neighborhood will have three collection opportunities during a six-week period, weather permitting, a city news release said. The free program complements other leaf collection methods, such as mulching, composting or bagging.
To participate, residents should rake their leaves into the street next to the curb by 6 a.m. on the first day of each collection cycle, city officials said. Cycles begin Oct. 20, Nov. 3 and Nov. 17.
It takes about two weeks to complete each cycle, the release said. Crews will collect leaves in front of each home once during each cycle. Inclement weather, including snow, rain or freezing weather, may delay or stop the program.
The city cannot guarantee curbside collection on a specific day. Residents can track the progress of a cycle at www.naperville.il.us/leafcollection.
Only leaves should be raked into the street, and residents need to ensure the leaves do not block storm drains, officials said. Residents are asked to rake leaves to the street during every collection cycle to avoid saving large quantities being left at the end of the program, when weather is more likely to cause a concern.
Once the final curbside collection is finished, all remaining leaves must be disposed of through the free bagged leaf and yard waste collection program, officials said. That program runs from Nov. 3 to Dec. 12, and residents do not need yard waste stickers for leaves placed in 32-gallon paper yard waste bags or clearly marked trash cans or carts.
