Homewood-Flossmoor High School went into a hard lockdown Friday afternoon after a firearm was reported on campus, District 233 Superintendent Jennifer Norrell said in a message sent to families and staff.
The firearm was taken into police possession and the individual who had it was taken into custody, Norrell said.
The school went into lockdown at about 1:30 p.m., the message said, and continued until 3 p.m. dismissal “out of an abundance of caution,” the message said.
Police from the surrounding areas were onsite to ensure safety, the message said, and would remain by the building during a staggered dismissal.
