
Recycling, children’s activities, food vendors and more will be part of Geneva’s Earth Day event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road in Geneva.
The event, sponsored by the city’s Natural Resources Committee and the Geneva Park District, is free and open to all ages, organizers said in a press release.
During the festival, the public can recycle shoes, cotton clothes, small electronics and holiday lights for free, the release said. Televisions and computer monitors can be recycled for a $25 fee or a $35 fee, depending on screen size, according to organizers.
Free paper shredding will also be offered at the event. Other activities will include chalk art, children’s activities, tomato plant and tree whip giveaways, food vendors and more, according to the release.
Flat Can Recycling will recycle household items for a fee at the event, including latex paint cans, household batteries, aerosol products, propane tanks, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and car seats, according to organizers.
Full lists of accepted recycling items and applicable fees at the event are available on the Geneva Park District website.
Residents who have unwanted bicycles can bring them to the event, where Working Bikes will refurbish and donate them to families in need, officials said.

Yorkville Sons of American Legion to host breakfast
The Yorkville Sons of The American Legion will hold its last monthly breakfast fundraiser of the season from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, April 12, at the Yorkville American Legion, 9054 E. Veterans Parkway in Yorkville.
The buffet at the event will consist of biscuits and gravy, pancakes, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, tomato juice, orange juice, milk, coffee and an omelet station, organizers said.
The cost for the event, which is open to the public, is $12 for adults 18 to 54 years old, $10 for those 55 years old and older and $8 for those 6 to 17 years old. Those 5 years old and younger eat for free.
