Parents of students in Hinsdale High School District 86 were sent an email Saturday from Superintendent Michael Loch, notifying them that a former assistant boys lacrosse coach had been arrested in connection with allegations of improper conduct involving a student at another high school.
Alex Buetikofer, 38, of the 2700 block of Windsor Drive, Lisle, was charged Saturday by Joliet police with multiple counts, including grooming, solicitation to meet a child, traveling to meet a minor-sex offense and aggravated battery, according to inmate records from Kendall County.
The letter from Lach stated District 86 was informed March 18 of the allegations against Buetikofer.
“Upon receiving this information, the District acted promptly to end his involvement as a lacrosse coach at Hinsdale Central and took all necessary steps to protect our students,” Lach wrote, stating that effective March 19, District 86 had ceased all association with Buetikofer, who was formally terminated March 26.
“At this time, we have no information indicating that any District 86 students are involved,” Lach wrote. “The District is fully cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues.
District 86 records show that he coached from March 2016 until October 2024, and then from March 2 to March 19 of this year, said Alex Mayster, the district’s executive director of communication.
“That is the time span when he was a paid coach, but it’s possible he was a volunteer coach prior to March 2016,” Mayster said.
Buetikofer also was on the March 26 agenda of Plainfield Community Consolidated District 202, regarding the dismissal of a probationary teacher. District 202 administration didn’t immediately respond to a message asking if the dismissal was approved.
“We understand that this news is very concerning, Lach wrote to parents. “While we are limited in what we can share due to the ongoing investigation and the need to protect student privacy, we are committed to keeping you informed with the information available to us.”
Lach said parents are encouraged to contact the principal of their student’s school if the student had any contact with Buetikofer that raises concerns or if they have any information they believe is important to share.
“The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority,” Lach wrote. “District 86 takes these matters extremely seriously and is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students.”
He said more information will be provided as it becomes available and as appropriate.
