New Trier Township High School District 203 is taking applications to fill an open Board of Education seat following the resignation of Wilmette resident Kimberly Alcantara.

Alcantara, who was first elected to the School Board in 2021 and was reelected to a four-year term in 2025, is stepping down because of “personal family reasons,” preventing her from completing the remainder of the term, according to a May 4 resignation letter to the Board.

Previous to this role, Alcantara also served eight years on the Wilmette District 39 School Board and worked as a Chicago-based attorney.

In the letter, she stated, “I have truly enjoyed our time working together on important issues to support our students, teachers and community. During my five years on the Board, we have advanced New Trier’s strategic goals, including expanding opportunities for students; improving our facilities and making sure New Trier is a place where everyone knows that they belong.”

Alcantara did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Pioneer Press.

In a press release from the district, New Trier School Board president Jean Hahn said Alcantara was an important voice in guiding the Board’s work.

“Her insightful questions and commitment to assuring students are supported in every step of the high school journey have enriched our decision-making,” Hahn wrote.

Applications for the Board vacancy are currently being accepted, with a deadline of 5 p.m. May 15. The newly appointed member will serve until the next election in April 2027, when a winner will serve for the remainder of Alcantara’s term, which ends in 2029.
