
PORTER COUNTY MUSEUM CELEBRATES COUNTY FAIR HISTORY
Porter County Museum has a new exhibit, “Our Heart of Hearts: The Porter County Fair.” The collection of photos, artifacts, and memories celebrates the history of the county’s most enduring and beloved institution. It will be on view until Oct. 25. Running concurrently in the museum’s Cain Gallery is a photography show by Aimee Tomasek, associate professor of Communication & Visual Arts at Valparaiso University. The exhibit, called “I Won a Blue Ribbon at the County Fair,” features recent portraits of 4-H exhibitors. Porter County Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. The museum, located at 20 Indiana Ave., offers free admission and free guided tours at 11 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. GARY LIBRARY HOSTS THREE FREE UPCOMING PROGRAMS
The Gary Public Library will host a special Water Safety Talk from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Main Library, 220 W. The library’s Spring Showcase will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 30 at the Main Library. This event draws more than 40 authors, crafters, and entrepreneurs to highlight local talent and creativity. A Classical Concert by the Gary Civic Symphony Orchestra will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. May 31 at the Main Library. Entrance will be on the north side only. Free parking in the north parking lot. FRANCISCAN HEALTH MC HOLDS SUICIDE PREVENTION PROGRAM
Franciscan Health Michigan City will host an entry-level Question, Persuade and Refer, or QPR Suicide Prevention Course from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 16 at the Franciscan Health Michigan City Legacy Campus, 301 W. Homer St. Based on a curriculum developed by the QPR Institute, the course aims to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. PURDUE EXTENSION HOSTS HORTICULTURE PROGRAM
The Purdue Extension-Lake County Office will host “Natural Pest Solutions for the Garden” with Urban Agriculture Extension Educator, Rebecca Koetz, and Horticulture Program Assistant, Dolly Foster, at 6 p.m. May 27 at 2291 N. NORTHWEST HEALTH HOLDS HEARING LOSS SEMINAR
The community is invited to join Northwest Medical Group Audiologist, Allison Witte, AuD, for “Hearing Loss and What You Can Do About It” from noon to 1 p.m. May 29 at Duneland Family YMCA, 215 Roosevelt St., Chesterton. This free seminar will explore hearing loss and practical tips to help improve quality of life. Topics will include: common signs and symptoms of hearing loss; modern treatment options; and hearing aids. There will be a Q&A at the end of the event, which is part of the Northwest Health HealthyU series, a wellness program that provides free seminars on various health and wellness topics for the community. SOUTH SHORE ARTS HOLDS ANNUAL BEAUX ARTS BALL
South Shore Arts will host its largest annual fundraiser, the 33rd Annual Beaux Arts Ball, themed “Unframed, The Graffiti Ball,” at 6 p.m. June 5 at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. This year’s event will benefit South Shore Arts’ everyKID program and other community arts initiatives. The everyKID program provides free art and literacy experiences to schools throughout Lake and Porter Counties. Over the past year, the program served 108 classrooms and approximately 2,744 children. The evening will feature creative décor designed in collaboration with the South Shore Arts Teen Arts Board and local artists, transforming the venue into an immersive artistic experience inspired by graffiti and urban art culture. Guests will enjoy live music, dinner, cocktails, and both live and silent auctions, all in support of expanding access to arts education throughout the region.
