The FBI is reviewing an agent-involved shooting on the city’s West Side on Thursday afternoon that left one person dead, authorities said.
The shooting took place near Garfield Park at around 3 p.m., federal authorities said in a statement, releasing sparse details about the events leading up to the shooting in response to a request for comment.
A Chicago Fire Department spokesperson confirmed one person was found dead on arrival and that the body was transported from the scene on the 3700 block of West Lexington Street.
Chicago police said the department had initially responded to the address, but that the FBI is leading the investigation and deferred further questions to federal authorities.
“The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously,” the FBI said in its statement. The incident is under review by the agency’s Inspection Division.
The FBI declined to share further details because the incident is “an ongoing matter.”
