An arm of the St. Charles city government that levies an annual property tax to pay for mental health services has received permission to spend 17.5 percent more in the next fiscal year.
The City Council this week approved the 708 Mental Health Board`s 1992-93 budget request of $198,000, up from $168,569 this year.
The board is appointed by the mayor. It levies the tax, then disperses the revenue to qualifying area social service organizations.
Larry Maholland, St. Charles director of finance and administrative services, said the mental health tax amounts to about 4 cents of the city`s property tax of 53 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. The 1992-93 city budget is due out in April, he said.
