Twenty-two Park District employees have been laid off in a cost-cutting measure partly attributed to increasing health insurance premiums.
Of the people let go, 16 were part-time and six were full-time employees. Most were maintenance workers.
A combination of rising premiums and the state tax cap led to the decision, said Bill Moran, Park District commissioner.
Before the cuts, the park district employed 223 people. Indications of a tightening budget surfaced earlier in the year when the district began charging for services and facilities formerly provided free to various organizations.
