Former East German leader Erich Honecker, charged with 49 counts of manslaughter for killings at the Berlin Wall, could soon die of liver cancer, a doctor said Monday.

Citing a medical examination conducted Aug. 4, Honecker`s lawyers have said their 79-year-old client is too sick to stand trial and have applied for a halt to the proceedings.
