A bright yellow, 65-foot helicopter made a surprise landing in Lincoln Park on Wednesday morning, giving North Side joggers and dog-walkers something more to look at than the usual landscape.

“What’s this doing here?” asked one woman who encountered the Sikorsky S-58T as she was walking two small dogs.

The aircraft, from Hinsdale-based Midwest Helicopter, was scheduled to pick up a load of air-conditioning units at North Boulevard and Dearborn Parkway and deliver them to the roof of an apartment building at 1415 N. Dearborn St., said Midwest’s vice president, Rick Smith. But weather reports didn’t warn about heavy fog, and the pilot had to make an emergency landing.
