Trustee Theodore Horne will keep his seat on the Barrington Hills Village Board after his name was drawn from a hat Tuesday night.
The game of chance, permitted by state law, came after Horne tied for third place with challenger Cheryl Quick in the April 1 election.
“It’s the first time it’s happened in the village and I’ve been here since ’62,” Village President James Kempe said of the tie.
Quick, who brought a horseshoe into the boardroom for luck, said she will not contest the results.
“We went through a very equitable process here,” she said. “I will be back in two years [for another run], though.”
