A federal prosecutor’s wife was found slain in a vehicle inside a shed in this southern Illinois community, Franklin County’s prosecutor said Friday as investigators searched for a “person of interest” in the case.

The body of Cindy Leggans–the 33-year-old spouse of Tom Leggans, an assistant U.S. attorney based in nearby Benton–was found Thursday afternoon in this community of about 700 people, Franklin County State’s Atty. Thomas Dinn said in a written statement.

Published reports said the woman had been beaten, but authorities were withholding such specifics about the case Friday.

Dinn’s statement offered few details, including any possible connection between Cindy Leggans and a man Dinn said was being sought for questioning.
