An autopsy Friday confirmed that a Chicago man shot himself Tuesday in a hospital room at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

The examination ruled that the man, 70, died Thursday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The man shot himself about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. A gun was found in the private hospital room, and an acquaintance who may have been in the room with the patient during the shooting was interviewed, police spokesman Pat Camden said.
