Two police officers and two other people were injured Sunday in a car chase on the Near Northwest Side, police said. The incident occurred about 12:15 p.m. when a driver refused to pull over for a seat-belt check at West Cortland Street and North Pulaski Road, said Officer Hector Alfaro. The driver struck a police officer on foot and tried to flee. He then tried to enter the Kennedy Expressway at Armitage Avenue and intentionally slammed into a squad car twice, setting off a chain reaction of crashes involving two other vehicles, Alfaro said. Officers later took the driver into custody.
All four victims were listed in good condition in Our Lady of the Resurrection and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Centers in Chicago. Charges are pending, police said.
