The FBI is seeking the public’s help in capturing a bank robber dubbed the “Chicago Bandit” who is believed to have held up eight banks in the city and suburbs.

Witnesses describe the man as white, between the ages of 25 and 35, standing about 5-foot-6, weighing about 140 pounds, with dark hair and a goatee, the FBI said.

He most recently entered a First Bank branch on Sept. 29 at 299 N. York Rd., Elmhurst, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash after handing the teller a note implying he was armed.

He has been dubbed the “Chicago Bandit” because the blue baseball-type cap he wears has the word “Chicago” emblazoned on it, the FBI said.

Beginning in August, the man is suspected in five robberies in Chicago, two in Des Plaines and the one in Elmhurst. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 312-421-6700.

Bank robberies in the five-county metropolitan area are on pace to equal or surpass the record set in 2005 of 240, the FBI said.
