U.S. agents raided more than a dozen homes and businesses in California and arrested nine men Monday, breaking up what they said was a plot to overthrow the Laotian government.
One of those held, Gen. Vang Pao, is a prominent Hmong fighter and a leader in exile in the United States since the communist takeover of Laos in 1975.
U.S. officials said the group planned to spend nearly $10 million on weapons. The plot was uncovered after a six-month operation, officials said.
