Jason Giambi was back at Yankee Stadium on Friday but had little to say.
The injured designated hitter hasn’t spoken with reporters since Commissioner Bud Selig asked him on Wednesday to meet within two weeks with his top steroids investigator, former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell. Selig said he will take Giambi’s cooperation into account in deciding whether to discipline Giambi for remarks in a newspaper article last month that many interpreted as an admission of steroids use.
Giambi, who is on the disabled list with an injured foot, was not in the clubhouse while it was open to reporters prior to Friday night’s 5-4 win over the Pirates. The players’ association said Giambi will decide whether to speak with Mitchell after he consults with his lawyer and the union. The union also said it doesn’t think there are any grounds to discipline Giambi.
Extra innings

Baltimore’s Sam Perlozzo was tossed after arguing a balk call in the sixth inning, and Clint Hurdle was thrown out for disputing a check-swing strike call against Ryan Spilborghs in the eighth.
