Two Chicago police officers were injured Wednesday when a mini-van ran into their squad car in an intersection on the Northwest Side, officials said.

The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. at Diversey and Narragansett Avenues, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. Firefighters cut open the smashed vehicle to remove the officers.

“They just got hit so hard the doors wouldn’t open,” Langford said.

The officers were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Both were listed in stable condition.

The driver of the mini-van remained on the scene but refused medical treatment, Langford said. Police could not immediately provide additional details.
