Mary Margaret “Maggie” Magee, age 54, passed away Aug. 4, 2009 from complications of myeloma.

She was born Aug. 4, 1955, and from there she moved through the world with tremendous will and energy.

Maggie was a beautiful force in the lives of her friends, family, and all those she met.

The people she loved were made better through her example of adventure and strength.

Maggie had many occupations in the course of her life.

Chicago bus driver, volunteer, doctor of optometry, but she would say her most important calling was being a mother.

She ordered her life around being a mother foremost, and in so doing taught her family that service to others was the secret to a life well lived.Maggie is survived by her husband, Robert Heyden; her children Noel, Miles, Cecilia and Isabella; her mother Mary; and stepfather O. Pierre Lee; her brothers James E. (Mike) Magee, Kevin Magee, and Thomas Magee; and her sisters-in-law Maylene, Barbara, and Gillian.

Before she passed, Maggie expressed deepest gratitude to friends and neighbors who were selfless in offering support and comfort.

Her family also wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at Hospice Care, Madison, WI, St. Mary’s Hospital 5th floor Southwest, and her doctors and oncologists, Amit Sanyal, MD, Amy Daley, MD, Seema Singhal, MD, and Jayesh Mehta MD, who provided her with extraordinarily humane and compassionate care.

An open house for friends and neighbors will be held at the family residence, Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, from 11 -2 p.m. Maggie’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider giving blood.

Memorials may also be sent to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in her name.
