A somber Anthony Adams stood in front of the cameras Monday all but grieving over Dusty Dvoracek’s latest misfortune.
“It’s bad any way you look at it,” the Bears nose tackle said of Dvoracek’s knee injury. “I feel badly for him. Just have to pray for him, pray that he bounces back.
“Words do it a disservice. I can’t describe how he feels. I can’t even describe how I felt about it when I heard about it.”
Bears coach Lovie Smith, sounding a bit more optimistic, said Dvoracek suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee during the Bears’ 17-3 exhibition victory Saturday night over the Giants.
The Bears would not confirm a Sun-Times report Dvoracek also tore his ACL and is out for the season. Dvoracek, who had a protective sleeve on his leg Monday but walked under his own power, said the report was “wrong.”
Smith said the team would conduct more tests.
“When I say it’s an MCL, that’s what it is,” Smith said. “That’s all we know. I’m always optimistic about it.
“This week is a game week for us also. … I’ll talk injuries in detail a little bit more Wednesday.”
If Dvoracek’s injury is indeed more serious, it would mark the fourth consecutive season-ending injury of his four-year NFL career.
No matter Dvoracek’s status, the competition at nose tackle is sure to continue. The three-man race now is a two-way battle between Adams and Marcus Harrison.
