Despite hopes of returning to first base for the first time since July 31, Paul Konerko will continue to serve as the Chicago White Sox’s designated hitter Wednesday night against American League Central rival Cleveland.
Konerko had hoped his sore left calf had healed to the point where he could return to first for the first time since getting hit by a pitch from Boston’s Andrew Miller. Nevertheless, Konerko has a 12-game hitting streak.
Donny Lucy, who was promoted from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday to take the roster spot of A.J. Pierzynski, will make his first start of the 2011 season. Lucy will work with Mark Buehrle, who has praised Lucy’s work behind the plate in past spring trainings. Lucy is 8-for-30 (.267) over parts of the 2007 and 2010 seasons with the Sox.
