Sharon Voliva was a leader who organized rallies and marches on Springfield without a smartphone or computer, without tweeting or going on Facebook.

She did have a telephone and a typewriter and an unwavering voice and a passion for a well-funded, strong public school system for all children.

If she still were with us today, she would aggressively oppose Senate Bill 16, which still will divide school districts, financing them based on property value and ZIP code — an exaggeration of what currently exists.

Thank you, Phil Kadner, for remembering Sharon Voliva in a recent column. It will be up to the parents to defeat SB 16 and insist on an adequate and sustainable school funding formula in Illinois.
