CROYA has expanded the scope of its biennial fundraiser to include a second recipient.
CROYA, the Committee Representing our Young Adults, is a city organization in Lake Forest that serves seventh to 12th graders. Every other year the group holds a fundraiser. Two years ago the fundraiser brought in about $30,000 that was used to buy a passenger van. Four years ago the fundraiser was for college scholarship.
For its Jan. 22 fundraiser, CROYA is raising money for both college scholarships and House of Peace, a shelter for victims of domestic violence.
“This is the first time we’ve chosen to have another organization be recipients of part of the money,” said Joanne Yorro, CROYA program manager. “The kids voted on it.”
Young people in CROYA volunteer with the children of women sheltered at House of Peace; taking them kayaking, swimming, preparing a pancake breakfast and engaging in other activities.
The fundraiser takes place at CROYA, 400 Hastings Road, from 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 22. There will be various auctions, tours of the facility and testimonials from young people.
