Those who miss having a hot dog or a shake at the now-closed Tasty Dog in Oak Park can still take home a piece of the iconic restaurant.

The Village of Oak Park, which took control of the restaurant after evicting Tasty Dog in 2015, is attempting to sell the former building’s sign through an online auction.

The listing, currently uploaded on the Public Surplus website as auction number 1830504, has a starting bid of $750. It ends at 7 p.m. April 27.

According to the listing, the sign measures 19 feet by 7 feet in size and is currently stored at the Oak Park Public Works Center, 201 South Blvd. Any successful bidder would be required to pick up the sign from that location within 10 days of winning the auction.

According to village spokesman David Powers, the sign was the only thing left behind when the village took control of the property.

“The furnishings belonged to the operators,” Powers said. “Much of the equipment was leased and reclaimed by the suppliers.”

Though the listing has zero bids as of the afternoon of April 25, Powers said the village may extend the bidding should the auction end without a winner.

Tasty Dog was evicted from its location at 708 Lake St. in September 2015 after the village alleged the business owed approximately $40,000 in past-due rent and approximately $600 in penalties.

In January 2016, the village approved an agreement with Ranquist Development Group to become the preferred redeveloper of the former Tasty Dog site at the northwest corner of Lake Street and Euclid Avenue.

At the site, Ranquist is currently building a five-story condominium complex called District House, which is expected to have 28 residential units, 37 parking spaces and 4,450 square feet of ground-level retail space.
