Police are searching for a man who was armed with a knife and tried to lure a 16-year-old girl late Monday in the North Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
The girl was walking just before 9:15 p.m. on Long Avenue near Division Street when she noticed a red sedan was following her. The driver curbed the car and a man got out of the sedan.
The man then brandished a knife toward the teen, but she was able to make it home to alert her mother, according to a news release from Chicago police. The girl’s mother then called police.
There might have been a second person in the car, and the girl thinks she had previously seen the car in the area of Pulaski Road and Chicago Avenue, according to the release.
The man who police are seeking is described as a black man who is 30 to 40 years old. He is clean shaven, has dark hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black baseball hat with rhinestones, a red jacket and jeans.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Area North Detectives at (312) 744-8200.
