The Kane County Health Department has expanded its hours at its mass vaccination site in Batavia on Wednesday to meet the demand for COVID-19 booster shots, officials said.
The Kane Vax Hub at 501 N. Randall St. on Wednesday, Nov. 3, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is usually open from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. It is also open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Kane County Health Department is encouraging eligible people to make an appointment for their COVID-19 booster shot at the Kane Vax Hub in Batavia at KaneVax.org. Seniors requiring assistance with appointments are encouraged to call 855-452-6382.
All three COVID-19 vaccines, Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen, are available to all Illinois residents at the Kane Vax Hub. To speed the check-in process, people should bring their vaccination card and a consent form for the vaccine they choose. Consent forms are available to download from KaneVax.org and KaneHealth.com.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends boosters for individuals 18 years old and older who received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine at least two months ago.
Booster shots are also recommended for people who received a Pfizer/Comirnaty or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at least six months ago who are 65 years old or older, and for those 18 years old and older who live in long-term care settings, have underlying medical conditions or who work in high-risk settings.
According to health officials, those working in high-risk settings are defined as first responders, education staff such as teachers and daycare workers, food and agricultural workers, corrections workers, those in manufacturing, U.S. Postal Service employees, public transit workers and those who work in grocery stores.
The CDC allows for the mixing and matching of the type of vaccine for the booster shot, officials said.
People should talk to their health care provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them, Kane County Health Department officials said.
