Due to the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Oswego, is hosting two COVID-19 vaccination and flu shot clinics on Jan. 27 in Aurora and another clinic on Feb. 9 in the city.
On Jan. 27, COVID-19 vaccinations, boosters and flu shots will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. at New Community Baptist Church at 900 E. New York St. in Aurora.
The second clinic that day is set for noon to 2 p.m. at Main Baptist Church at 814 E. Galena Blvd. in Aurora. Kifowit is co-hosting this event with Aurora Ald. Scheketa Hart-Burns, 7th Ward, and other community leaders, according to a press release about the clinics.
Those under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the clinics. Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines will be available, as well as the annual flu shot. Individuals getting their second vaccine dose or booster should bring their vaccination card, organizers said. For these two clinics, no appointments are necessary.
“We encourage everyone in our community to protect themselves, and others, by getting vaccinated or receiving a booster. The tools to fight this illness are available and getting vaccinated is proven to reduce the chance of infection and greatly reduce the chance of hospitalization or serious illness,” Kifowit said in the press release.
Kifowit and Aurora Ald. Patty Smith, 8th Ward, are hosting and partnering with VNA Health Care on another COVID-19 vaccination, booster and flu shot clinic from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Eola Road Branch of the Aurora Public Library at 555 S. Eola Road in Aurora.
Those under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to get a shot at the event. Just like at the Jan. 27 clinics, Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson and Johnson vaccines and boosters will be available, as well as the annual flu shot. Anyone getting their second dose or booster should bring their vaccination card.
While walk-ins will be welcome at the event, organizers said individuals are strongly encouraged to register ahead of time at ILDistrict84.com/events.
“At the Jan. 5 clinic (at the library branch) over 100 shots were given, which shows us there is a demand and desire for these vaccines,” Kifowit said.
