Donald Trump is in free fall. His legal woes pile up. The rollout of his social media network has been a disaster. America has wearied of his behavior and inane remarks. Revenge and manipulated fundraising stoke his “Big Lie.” Corruption surrounds him. His exaltation of Vladimir Putin, who played him for a fool, has reeked. My fellow Republicans, send Donald Trump to the showers.
As Brown-Jackson says, Black girls have to be “twice as good” to succeed professionally. She’s proving that they can be twice as smart as the partisan senators interviewing her.
The Republicans have once again shown their bias and abject ignorance when it comes to a strong, educated Black woman. Judge Ketanji Brown-Jackson’s credentials are beyond reproach. But that didn’t stop them from asking questions that did not even make sense or have anything to do with her actual record. They maliciously lied about things she supposedly said and did. I expect a lot more from our elected leaders. If the tables were turned and these sorry excuses were in the hot seat, they would be exposed as the totally inept individuals that they are. Voters need to do so much better than electing these flawed bigots.
We should mourn the death of Madelyn Albright. My wife’s nephew, now retired from the State Department, once helped escort her on dangerous missions into Southeast Asia. He thought the best of her statesmanship. Though in 2012 she disputed Mitt Romney’s warning on Russia, Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Crimea later convinced her he was delusional. She minced no words with him face to face and predicted the sinister path he would probably take. In contrast, Putin stroked Donald Trump’s ego and played him for a fool.
There has been a lot of talk about the soon-to-be-enacted permitless gun carry law in Indiana. During a campaign discussion, a liberal leaning political figure asked the question how are Republicans going to feel if crime rates go up after the law is enacted? The conservative individual indicated Republicans will never have to worry about “taking heat” because it is so easy to blame the Democrats! We just remind the people that the Democrats wanted to “defund the police.” This is clear evidence Democrats need to stop “shooting themselves in the foot.” The group behind the defund initiative was small. Yet, they gave Republicans a powerful campaign rally cry that didn’t cost a dime!
Our Sen. Mike Braun said that states should have the right to ban both interracial marriage and contraception. That’s where we are with the Sstates’ rights argument. Logically Braun must think the Southern states should have had the right to decide whether or not slavery should be illegal. To this day, states’ rights is still the Southern justification for the Civil War. Just visit their Confederate monuments.
Lindsey Graham gets into a snit and walks out of Jackson Brown’s confirmation hearing. What a class act. Hope the voters of South Carolina are proud of him. The rest of us are appalled and ashamed that he is a U.S. Senator.
It’s sad. Russia will no longer be remembered as the nation that produced great authors like Chekhov, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, and Turgenev, but as the country that produced Vladimir Putin, who the (just) late former Secretary of State Madeline Albright once described as “reptilian.”
Donald Trump’s former security adviser, H.R. McMaster, praises President Biden for uniting Europe and our allies worldwide, both by his diplomacy and by coordinated economic action. Biden has also reassembled NATO, which Trump in extremely ill timing tried to trash. In the current crisis, McMaster insists, parties must unite. “Nobody should use Ukraine to score partisan points.”
