Add another award to Andrean senior Drayk Bowen’s long list.

The Notre Dame signee was named the Indiana Gatorade player of the year on Friday, earning the honor for the second straight time.

Bowen, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker and running back, had already become the Region’s first Mr. Football. He also won the Butkus Award, which recognizes the top high school linebacker in the country.

Bowen, who has been in San Antonio for the Army All-American Bowl this weekend, led the 59ers to the Class 2A state championship game in back-to-back seasons.

He had 144 tackles, 19 for loss, five sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and had two interceptions this season, when Andrean lost to Evansville Mater Dei in the state final. He also rushed for 1,784 yards and 26 touchdowns and made 10 catches for 228 yards and three TDs.

As a junior, Bowen carried Andrean past Mater Dei for the state title. He had 105 tackles, 12 for loss, three sacks and three interceptions. He also ran for 965 yards and 18 TDs.

Bowen graduated from Andrean last month and is enrolling at Notre Dame for the second semester.
