South Elgin holding online auctions through Wednesday

South Elgin is selling unclaimed bicycles and village-owned equipment in online auctions being orchestrated through Obenauf Auction Services Inc. of Round Lake.

Both will end Wednesday, Jan. 11 — the police/security-related electronics auction closing at 9:45 a.m. and the bicycle auction at 10:40 a.m.

Police department Administrative Specialist Donna Babica said state law requires unclaimed bikes discarded or left in parks need to be held for six months before they can be sold. The electronics equipment includes items that are being replaced with newer models, she said.

Money from the auction will go to the police department’s equipment replacement or vehicle replacement funds.

Gail Borden Public Library hosting preschool info event

Parents can learn about preschool options in the Elgin area at an information fair being held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

Representatives from area preschools, day care centers and licensed homes will be available to talk about their child care services and answer questions.

Attendees will receive information about each of the 19 participating centers, including which offer after-school care, disability services, sliding-scale funding and other features. Anyone who visits five or more booths will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $10 Target gift card.

No registration is necessary to attend. For more information, call 847-742-2411.
