A team of two administrators has been named by the Township High School District 214 Board of Education to act as interim superintendents as the district searches for a new leader, according to a news release issued by the district.
David Schuler, who has been the SD214 school chief for 17 years, has moved on to a new role as executive director of the American Association of School Administrators. A parting reception was held for Schuler Feb. 9.
According to the news release, Lazaro Lopez, associate superintendent for teaching and learning, who has introduced dozens of innovative programs over the 23 years he has worked for the district, will be joined by Kenneth Arndt.
Arndt had been a 45-year education veteran before he retired as superintendent of Algonquin-based Community Unit School District 300 in 2011.
The two administrators will share the district’s leadership role.
Arndt will be the primary point of contact for parents and community members and serve as the superintendent of record for state and federal compliance purposes. Lopez will focus on daily operation activities and leading district initiatives in progress, according to the release.
“We are confident that the skills and abilities of Dr. Arndt and Dr. Lopez will provide the continuity needed during this period of transition,” board President Bill Dussling stated in the release.
The school board is working with consulting firm Hazard, Young Attea and Associates in its search for Schuler’s successor and expects to make an announcement in April, according to the release.
SD214 enrolls more than 11,900 students across six schools, including John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove High School in Buffalo Grove.
